Pro Tools is the industry standard DAW adopted by
most of the top educational institutions to help teach students music creation and audio post workflows found in professional and project studios around the world.
Learn the art of media creation—The same music creation and audio production tools used by the top pros and facilities in the world
is now available as a freemium application, enabling artists
to create great sounding music tracks and giving aspiring audio professionals a means to learn the
same tools as the pros.
For college level students Pro Tools for Education is more suitable as it exactly matches the feature set used by the pros, is required for certification, and is now available for as
little as $99 per year.{Also, since Pro Tools First shares
most of the same features as Pro Tools, there is a
wealth of online ‘how to' video resources that musicians
and audio editors, new to the world of recording and/or Pro
Tools, can access to help them get the most out of the Pro Tools First experience and ultimately produce great sounding songs and tracks that stand out from the crowd.|Although it
is the perfect tool for music creation, Pro Tools First can also be used for audio
edit applications such as the spoken word,
voice over editing, sound effects design and for mastering tracks from video editors.|For this review,
I tested Avid Pro Tools 11.1.2 on two machines,
one for each platform: A custom-built Intel Core i7 (Haswell) PC
with 16GB RAM, a 256GB SSD, and a 3TB internal SATA drive;
and a MacBook Pro 15-inch with a quad-core 2.6GHz Core i7 processor,
16GB RAM, an internal 256GB SSD, and a 3TB 7200rpm Buffalo TeraStation external drive connected via USB 3.0.
In both cases, I tested Pro Tools 11 with a Focus Saffire 18i8 audio
interface. |Avid optimizes Pro Tools to work seamlessly with
the company's hardware, including HD and its third-generation lineup of Mbox systems, all
at extremely low latencies
